Morning Walks

Ever since moving into our new neighborhood, Ickie and I have taken a 2+ mile loop nearly every morning--I walk it and he runs it. Here are some of the things I've enjoyed on my morning waddle.
  • yammering swans on the Presumpscot River
  • the aroma of greasy Mexican food from the Fajita Grill
  • a blood-red cardinal
  • Saccarappa Falls by the old Dana Warp Mill
  • huge blooming bushes of forsythia, rhododendron, and lilac
  • a sleek black kitten with bright jade-green eyes
  • the towering stone of St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church
  • a white-spotted chipmunk
  • dome-covered desserts on the counter of Olivia's diner
  • toddlers hassling the seagulls hassling the ducks in the park
  • aimless teens hanging out on the railroad bridge
  • a house that smells like sauerkraut
  • little league baseball games on Saturday mornings
  • neighborly pedestrians who make room on the path for the pregnant woman
  • the hot dog cart next to the playground, crowded with children
Update (06/15/08): The other morning I saw a man riding down Main Street on one of these. Sadly, he was not arrayed in period costume and handlebar mustache to match. He just looked like he was riding to work, which actually made it all the more curious.

I love it! Sounds like our afternoon walks around town. There are many food smells coming from all of the small bakeries/restaurants. The kids love it - although Chandler tries to give specific directions to make me head towards the nearest playground...

Sneaky guy.

I can't wait to come take a walk with you!

Would you think that I was lame if I told you it bothers me that you have laid out a 2 mile loop around your home with plenty of landmarks so that it is easy to locate, and notified the internet readers of the land that you can be found on that loop each morning alone? I appreciate that I'm slightly paranoid and untrustworthy. I just place a high value on "you."

And also that your best friend just pointed out how to identify this route to those of us who are a little slow?

We are the most dangerous... the slow ones.

Jackie, considering everyone else that lives in my town is out on that same 2-mile loop walking/biking/driving as well, I'm far from "alone." Also, keep in mind I live in a state with one of the lowest crime demographics of the whole country.
My suburb's stats: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 22. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 1.4 per 1,000 people.
Your suburb's stats: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 242. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 3.8 per 1,000 people.
Also, your two posts next to each other make you look totally bipolar (even if your photo is STUNNING).
Ooooh, burn.

Well, thanks for the photo compliment. You took that picture, so good job! Nice stats...nerd. I'm more troubled by the fact that I said that I was untrustworthy. I didn't know that I felt that way about myself. Maybe I am bipolar. I'll have to check and let me know.

Anyways, STILL if there was some crazy minion out there who fell in love with you from the stunning photo on your blog, they now know how to stalk you. I'm just saying.

Well, my husband fell in love with me via the written word (technically email), so I suppose it's possible that a complete stranger could develop a crush on me from reading my insightful blogging. I can't prevent men from having good taste, I'm just skeptical of the odds.
Did you ever find out if you're bipolar? B/c if you are, you could start posting on my blog as two different personalities.

You guys are so hilarious. Hey Watoosa, what are my suburb's stats? I'm afraid to find out as I live in a college town next to the capital city. Yikes!

It's a good thing I have those super-powers.
