That's right, we're buying a yellow house in Maine, just like Haley Mills' family did in the beloved (at least by my family) Disney classic, Summer Magic. We plan on performing far fewer musical numbers, though.
My plan is to turn the spare room on the first floor into the library and arrange all the books lovingly in there. We'll probably put the computer desk in there as well, but I'd prefer to have a cushy chair or two instead and leave the room utterly devoted to the written word. So here's a question: What color should one paint a library? Is blue, green, red, or taupe more conducive to good reading?

Burgundy - it is bold but not distracting. Plus, it reminds me of an old English library.

I say you load the room from floor to ceiling with bookshelves full of books, leaving not an inch of wall space visible. Then coloring would be inconsequential. Also, I like the idea of the room being devoted to written word. It just sounds so... wonderful.
Technically all the words on the computer are also "written". They're not "hand"written but then neither are the books. The difference would be whether the room solely contains "words printed on paper" or not. I vote for a PC dedicated (primarily) to updates to this blog (& Chris') as well as GoodReads.com.
I vote for taupe or chartreuse (just because it's a word that I find interesting & rarely can remember what shade it actually denotes).
I sort of favor a modern peppermint green for the few spaces that will show between shelves. And don't forget about the ceiling...
